The Thirst Project
The thirst project is a project made by college people in 2007. These people are trying to raise money by traveling the country and going to different type of schools. These people are going to different places to build a fresh water well for all the poor/homeless people who don’t have clean water. Almost 1 billion people don’t have access to clean water. 4,100 children die ever day from drinking dirty water that’s about one child every 21 seconds. All people don’t die from drinking dirty water they can also get diseases. These diseases kill more than 2.2 million people every year. These diseases can also give you rashes and you can get little animals inside your body you need to get operated to take them out. Many people walk average 3.25 miles just to collect water. By the time they get home they are really tired and have no energy for school or for important things to do.
When you bring clean and safe water to a community the diseases and deaths caused by drinking contaminated water stop. Another solution to stop all theses people from drinking water is to build and maintain a freshwater well clean. To build a water well it will cost between $7,800 in Uganda to $20,000 in Kenya. This means that an entire community of people lives can be forever saved. One well can provide up to 500 people with clean water. The solution for this problem is to simple and the victory points are too easily attainable for us to continue to ignore #1 killer of children globally. Without water there is no life.
I raised my dollar by asking my family if they can help kids and people who don’t have clean water get clean water by making a well. I told them by donating a dime, nickel, or even a penny can change some ones life. My thoughts and feeling when I became aware of the negative effects of clean water was that I felt bad for all the people who don’t have clean water. Three things that can happen when you don’t have clean water is many people die, people get diseases, and people get operated of the diseases they get. People weren’t curious where the money would go because I explained to them that the money I was collecting was for poor/homeless families who don’t have clean water. I felt glad to collect money for those who really need something. Together we can raise awareness and build wells.
